Trip Description:

Expedition sled on the ice pack
The North Pole ski trip is a considered to be one of the greatest expedition challenges. We are offering a unique opportunity to join a guided expedition to the Arctic Ocean with our experienced team. Mountain Professionals is well positioned to offer polar expeditions because our staff includes polar adventurers with in-depth experience including multiple North Pole, South Pole, and Greenland expeditions.
Reinhold Messner called his journey to the North Pole, a horizontal Everest - easily one of the most difficult expeditions on the planet. With a small team, you will ski across the shifting sea ice and open water of the Arctic Ocean. Team members will learn and refine the necessary skills and techniques required to travel safely and comfortably in one of the most extreme environments on the planet. Please note: due to the extreme nature of this journey, participants will be required to complete a comprehensive application. Team members will also be required to attend a week-long training session in January.
This expedition will be guided by polar explorer Eric Larsen. Eric was elected as one of Outside Magazine's Eco All Stars in 2008. In 2006, Eric and Lonnie Dupre completed the first ever summer expedition to the North Pole. He successfully led his first expedition to the South Pole in 2008. In November 2009, Eric returned to Antarctica for the first leg of his world record Save the Poles expedition attempting to become the first person to reach "all 3 poles in a single year". This time he completed a 750-mile ski traverse to the geographic South Pole then two short months later he was at the northern Ellesmere Island for a North Pole expedition. His international team reached the North Pole 51 days later on Earth Day April 22, 2010. He reached the summit of Mt. Everest in Fall of 2010 becoming the first person to ever complete the "3 poles" in a single year.

Crossing the ice pack
The team will meet in Resolute, Canada after completing a thorough training program. Gear check and food pack will happen prior to meeting in Resolute. We will spend a few days acclimatizing to the arctic cold and humidity before flying to northern Ellesmere Island to begin our adventure to the North Pole. We will have a comprehensive logistics and safety network to support our journey and will receive 1-2 resupplies along the way. Depending on the group's abilities and snow and ice conditions, this trip will take around 55 days. It is important to note that this is a very difficult journey in extreme cold and participants will be required to help in all aspects of travel and camp set up.
Cost: Please contact Mountain Professionals for pricing and additional information. Fee includes custom training program, all meals and group gear while in Arctic. Fee does not include transportation to Resolute, Canada or back from Svalbard, Norway.
