ITINERARY
Final Prep & Relaxation Day
A free day for last-minute preparations, gear adjustments, or simply resting before heading to the ice.
Fly to Union Glacier, Antarctica
Weather permitting, we fly 4 hours south to Union Glacier, landing on a stunning blue-ice runway. After setting up camp, we settle into our first night on the continent.
Acclimatization & Ski Prep
A full day on the ice to test our systems, ski around camp, and adapt to the Antarctic environment before the expedition begins in earnest.
Flight into 89° South & Begin Skiing
We fly by Twin Otter aircraft to 89°S, 60 nautical miles from the South Pole. After landing, we begin our journey with a short ski to establish camp.
Ski to the South Pole
Over the course of roughly 6 - 7 days, we ski across the polar plateau toward the geographic South Pole. Expect stunning silence, vast horizons, and a deep sense of accomplishment as we near our goal.
Return to Union Glacier
We board our aircraft and fly back to Union Glacier Camp to celebrate our achievement with a hot meal and well-earned rest and showers.
Return to Puntas Arenas
Once the weather window opens, we fly back to Punta Arenas. After a hot shower, we gather for a celebratory dinner to toast the journey.
End of Expedition - Depart for Home
With unforgettable memories in tow, guests depart for home or onward travel.
ITINERARY
Day 01
Arrival in Papua (Timika)
Most climbers fly from Bali to Timika arriving in the early a.m. We pick you up at the airport and transfer you to our team hotel. Check-in at the Horison Ultima Hotel Timika, known for its modern amenities and comfort.
Gear Check & Briefing: Rest, acclimatize to the time zone, gear check, and briefing about the upcoming climb.
Meet with the climbing team to go over logistics.
Day 02
Timika to Carstensz Pyramid Base Camp
Helicopter Flight: Early morning helicopter flight from Timika to Base Camp at 4,200 meters (13,780 feet).
Settle in, get comfortable with the environment, and prepare gear.
Acclimatization Hike: Short hike around the Yellow Valley area. Focus on light exercise and familiarizing with the altitude.
Day 03
Acclimatization & Training
Route Training: Practice on technical sections of the route (rock climbing and scrambling) with the guides. Focus on safety and key climbing techniques.
Rest & Review: Rest in the afternoon and review the plan for the summit push. Early dinner and prep for the summit.
Day 04
Potential Summit or Rest Day
Early Start: Start the climb early to maximize daylight hours. Expect a long day, with a combination of rock climbing, scrambling, and technical challenges.
Summit: Reach the summit of Carstensz Pyramid (4,884 meters / 16,024 feet). Celebrate the achievement, take photos, and enjoy the incredible views.
Descent: Begin the descent back to base camp.
Day 05
Reserve Summit Day
Contingency: In case of weather issues or other delays on Day 5, Day 6 is reserved for a second attempt at the summit or additional rest if needed.
Day 06
Reserve Summit Day
Contingency: In case of weather issues or other delays on Day 5, Day 6 is reserved for a second attempt at the summit or additional rest/recovery if needed.
Rest/Recovery: If the summit was successful on Day 5, use this day to rest and recover before the return trip.
Day 07
Helicopter Return to Timika
Morning: Early helicopter pickup from Base Camp to Timika.
Return to Timika: Arrive back in Timika, where you'll check into the Horison Ultima Hotel for a comfortable recovery.
It may be possible to secure onward tickets to Bali this afternoon for your own vacation.
Day 08
Return to Bali (or Reserve Day)
Morning: Take your return flight from Timika to Bali (or any other domestic location for onward travel).
Reserve Day: If there were any delays earlier in the itinerary, this day serves as a cushion for unexpected events.
Day 09
Extra Reserve Days
Buffer Days: This day is added for any delays (weather, transportation issues, etc.). This ensures you have some flexibility in case things don't go exactly as planned.
Day 10
International Flight Home
Most climbers will plan their travel to depart from Bali to their home country.

Personal expenses
Personal expenses include any small purchases in Indonesia, such as extra food, supplies, or taxis, as well as any items you may wish to buy while on the trip.
Personal clothing & gear
Team members are responsible for arriving with the required personal clothing and equipment for the expedition. Upon signing up, we provide a detailed gear list and are always available to offer advice or answer any questions about what to bring, ensuring you're fully prepared for the journey.
Personal travel insurance
We strongly recommend team members on the Elbrus expedition to have rescue/evacuation insurance. Upon signing up, we provide a list of recommended insurance providers that specialize in covering climbing trips, ensuring you're fully protected for the journey.
Personal Indonesia Visa Costs
Cost of Tourist Visa prior to arrival to Indonesia.
Alcoholic drinks and personal snacks
Outside of the team meals provided while in towns, you are responsible for drinks or any personal snacks for the climb.
International flights to/from Timika Airport
The cost of your international flights to and from (TIM) Airport, is not included in the expedition price. This means you are responsible for researching, booking, and covering the expenses of your flights from your home country (or starting location) to Papua and your return journey after the expedition concludes.
