Trip Description:

Join the Mountain Professionals Himalaya veteran guides and top notch Sherpa team for a privately organized and guided expedition to one of the world´s most famous mountains. Our trip consists of high western staff to client ratio, 1:1 Sherpa to client ratio, and a small-efficient team mentality to maximize safety. Ama Dablam has long been considered one of the most beautiful mountains in the world. For decades trekking groups and climbers have walked past, photographed, and pondered this unique mountain located close to Everest in the heart of the Khumbu Valley. It is a striking peak with steep ridges and a hanging glacier which resembles the local Sherpa necklace called "Dablam", earning it´s name and respect of the local Sherpa community.

Ama Dablam Climbing Expedition
Ama Dablam Base Camp
Our expedition will climb the classic Southwest Ridge Route. The climb requires a strong mountaineering background and previous high altitude experience on mountains in the 15,000 ft. to 20,000 ft. ranges (up to 6,000m experience preferable). We work one on one with our clients to try and assemble motivated teams that will work well together and enjoy the experience. The team will meet in the capital city of Kathmandu and then will fly to Lukla and trek to Ama Dablam base camp passing Sherpa villages such as Namche bazaar and Tengboche along the way. The base camp will be situated at an altitude of 14,700 ft. (4500m) and we will place three camps along the way in preparation for the summit.

Ama Dablam Expeditions
High on the mountain
The climb is widely regarded as one of the most aesthetic climbing routes in the area, ascending rock ridges, steep snow and ice, and short sections of rock. The vast majority of the climbing route will be fixed with rope by our Sherpa climbing team allowing climbers to ascend and rappel with a greater safety margin. Climbers should be comfortable using ascenders to assist in climbing fixed ropes on short vertical sections and have basic rock climbing skills up to 5.7 (French 5a) in difficulty. The route is mostly concentrated on the crest of a ridge making it relatively safe but exposed and steep in many sections.

Our expedition will take place in the Spring climbing season. This will allow us to take advantage of the favorable Spring weather and less congestion on the route with much fewer expeditions than in the Fall season. We hope you can join our small team, personalized expedition to Ama Dablam in the Spring of 2012. Please contact us for further details or to discuss the expedition directly with one of our senior guides.
